Product Details
The One day kitesurf lesson, gives you to a dedicated instructor for the duration of the lesson, and allows you to progress at whatever pace you feel comfortable - if you have any previous experience we will start at that level, with the instructor maximising your progression.
This is unlike most lessons that will bunch a group of upto 4 people per instructor and progress is limited to the slowest person in the group, and with time being so precious this lesson guarantees the best progression you can obtain in a day.
We have received great success with these one to one days and have at times had students saying that they have learnt more with us in a 2 days than they have in a week with other schools.
After a One day lesson the student if they wish are text every Friday with local weather conditions for the weekend and where we will be kitesurfing, this allows the student to then, if they have decided to buy there own kit, to come out and practice knowing that an instructor will be there on hand and will check on there progress suggesting ways in which they can progress further, in the process you will meet a keen and dedicated group of kitesurfers that are around most weekends, allowing you to break into the kitesurfing community with ease.
We offer kitesurf lessons at Camber sands, Kitesurf lessons at Greatstone, and then use many other areas around the south east for kitesurf lessons including Minster on the Isle of Sheppey, Tankerton, Minnis Bay, Dymchurch, Littlestone etc, all to make sure that we cover as many wind directions as pssible and are not fixed to one beach - making sure that we offer the greatest range of days to teach on available in kent and sussex.
We will start off by introducing the IKO (International Kitesurfing Organisation) / BKSA (British Kite Surfing Association), and what they stand for in kitesurfing. We will then:
1) Fit you with your wetsuit, harness, helmet, buoyancy aid, boots etc - or ideally pop into the shop beforehand and we will measure you up for kit, meaning there will be less time wasted on the day.
2) Go through a Kitesurf kite and board (basics), all the parts on it, there names and what they do
3) Wind direction (upwind, downwind, crosswind, cross onshore, cross shore and cross off winds) and windspeed (what windspeeds are safe to kitesurf in)
4) How to assess dangers, and how to know where to kitesurf safely
5) Show you how to actually inflate a kitesurf kite safely, and to what pressure
6) Kite ground handling skills, and how to place the kite on the beach safely
7) How to connect the flying / control lines to the kite, and the safety system on the kites, Beach etiquette, Larks Head knot
8) Show through diagrams and demonstration on how to launch and land a kitesurf kite, and the various positions in the sky, that you will need to know (covering the power zone, 9-3 O’clock positions etc)
9) Demonstration followed by student practice on actually flying a kitesurf kite on the water along with demonstration / practice on safety system, and how to launch and land
10) Demonstration followed by student practice on how to relaunch a kite off the water
11) Walking while flying the kite, introduce the sine flying course
12) Kite pack down / safe rescue from water.
13) Downwind body drag - Directional body drag
14) Crosswind body drag
Progression is not limited to Crosswind body dragging, but depends on your ability and progression level - we may get as far as board skills.
The points above are all what we would expect to get through on a one day course, depending on student ability and weather, items may be changed / moved around.
The duration of a one day lesson is approx 6 hours.
"A one to one lesson is the way forward, trust me it is worth every penny. The lesson took place at Minster, December 2008, air temp 5 degrees! I had previously taken lessons with other schools so my kite handling skills were ok, but I could not get up on the board no matter how hard I tried. Within 20 min with Andrew I was up on the board, as he had predicted. By the end of the 6 hr lesson I could barely move and my hands were frozen stiff but I was pretty much riding both ways. The safety instructions were also excellent. The aftercare was the icing on the cake, with Andrew always available for advice and text updates of wind conditions every week. Top lesson from a top instructor, highly recommended!"
