HQ Yukon Kite inc lines and wrist straps
"Hi, (apologies forgot your name)
came into your shop on Saturday where we bought an HQ Yukon
..."
Hi I'm Will Hamilton. I'm 27 years old and I've been kiting for just over four and a half years now. I got into Kitesurfing completely by accident as a friend of mine had booked a lesson with Andy from AllGoodFun for two people and the other guy had dropped out. It took a bit of persuading to convince me that it was a good idea to spend two days in the Channel in early November but I did and was hooked immediately!
As I'm based in London kitesurfing is definitely an unfortunate addiction to have picked up, but if the wind is blowing I am either somewhere heading south on the M20 or at Camber Sands or Greatstone beach. I also do quite a bit of traveling with my gear, both around the UK to places like North Uist in the Outer Hebredies or Devon and Cornwall and abroad to spots in Morroco and other places. Although I've kited some incredible spots on my travels it is hard to beat a 25 knot easterly down at Greatstone on a Sunny day!
One of the things I love about Kitesurfing is the endless progression that's possible. I remember the buzz I got the first time I managed to get up on the board and then the first jump and that feeling is still there every time I land a new move. There has been a lot of argument over the past few years as to what direction the sport should be taking at competition level.
Although I am getting more and more into powered wakestyle moves with the kite low I get just as much of a kick out of heading out stupidly overpowered for a big air session down at Camber or just caining along at
Greatstone in the shallow stuff. I reckon a really well executed simple move maybe with a grab thrown in somewhere looks massively better than a more difficult move that looks rushed.
At the moment I'm concentrating on landing moves to blind and adding grabs in where possible. I guess my favourite moves have to be an S-bend or a backloop kiteloop just because they feel so good!
